Presenter Biographies

Hanming Fang is the Joseph M. Cohen Term Professor of Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and an NBER Research Associate. He also holds appointments in Penn’s Department of Health Care Management and the Wharton School, and he currently chair’s the economics department. His research focuses on a range of applied microeconomic issues, including the working of insurance market, the government’s role in providing the social safety net, demographic economics, and dynamics of the Chinese economy. Fang is a past recipient of the Kenneth Arrow Prize, awarded by the International Health Economics Association. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

Sabrina Howell is an Associate Professor of Finance at the NYU Stern School of Business. She is an NBER Research Associate and a Research Fellow at the Private Equity Research Consortium. Her research focuses on entrepreneurship, private equity, and innovation. She is a past recipient of the AQR Asset Management Institute Young Researcher Award. She received her Ph.D. from Harvard University.

Damon Jones is an associate professor at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy, and an NBER Faculty Research Fellow. He recently completed a term as a senior economist at the Council of Economic Advisers, focusing on labor market and taxation issues. Jones’ research focuses on public finance and household finance, and he is a co-editor of the Journal of Public Economics. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley.

Tomasz Piskorski is the Edward S. Gordon Professor of Real Estate in the Finance Division at Columbia Business School and an NBER Research Associate. His research explores issues in real estate finance, securities and mortgage markets, financial intermediation and banking, market structure and regulation, and housing policy. He is affiliated with the Paul Milstein Center for Real Estate at Columbia, and a past recipient of the AQR Insight Distinguished Paper Award. He received his Ph.D. from the NYU Stern School of Business.
